Optimum conditions in Ammonia Convertor

How H/N ratio 2.8 is optimum & give maximum yield in ammonia converter?

In stoichiometry we need 3:1 ratio of H2/N2 at ammonia converter but dissolve gas to liquid ammonia product and purge gas is reason for drops below 3:1

Dear Zaghammm,
as indicated by mehdiamiri a ratio slightly lower than 3:1 should be preferred due to dissolved gas to liquid ammonia.
Another reason is that the ammonia synthesis rate determining step is the nitrogen chemisorption, therefore the kinetic is improved by a slight excess of N2.

Optimum ratio will be the one that gives maximum per pass convertion at reactor. Depending on inert level, catalyst activity amongst other variables. please find attached an interesting paper on this subject, where the H/N ratio operatign windows is explored in detail.
