Package Boiler excess Oxygen

Post by Nyron » Sat Aug 19, 2017 1:17 pm

Good day,
Currently the excess oxygen on my package boiler flue gas is reading zero.
Checks carried out include;
Verify analyser functional.
Lab sample.
Increase air flow to boiler.
Verify no black stacking.

Anyone ever experienced this problem?

Regards,
Nyron Bissessar

Check fuel to air ratio manually calculation and you will get outlet O2 excess value and also check manually the CO analysis it shall be negligible to ensure complete combustion.

Dear Mr Nyron
I think Mr Nassem is right as below
Confirm always excess O2 in any fired furnace to avoid chance of explosion due unburnt explosive mixture. Also check CO content in flue gas it should be less than 1. You may also check residual CH4 content in flue gas to ensure complete combustion.
Thanks and Regards

Thanks for the replies. Further checks revealed air was back flowing through the standby force draft fan as the outlet isolation damper was not seating off properly when closed.

Do you not employ cross limiting combustion control strategy?

Operating without excess air and no reliable O2 indication is very dangerous from combustion safety standpoint.

Refer to ASME Section VII to follow the recommended practices for safe boiler operation.
